Can a tiger salamander go from captivity into the wild if they came from the wild?

I found a tiger salamander back in March it was a nice day but we knew the cold was going to come back so we took him into our house and set him up in an aquarium so he wouldn't die but I was wondering if I can let him back into the wild and if he will be okay and not die?
