Is our feral kitten making enough progress that we should try holding him?
so we got a feral kitten he is 6 months old. before us he had only been in captivity for 2 and a half weeks. He connected with my partner and i right away by eating in front of us and not just staring forlornly from under our friend's toilet (the one who was keeping him in her home at the time). In the past four and a half weeks he has not only positively bonded with our roommate's cat (the kitten ernie follows puma the older cat around EVERYWHERE) but he eats out of our hands right away and lets us pet him for a little bit when puma is around. He also sleeps by us and i found him sleeping on the bed with my partner this morning. We want to be able to take him on trips with us and get him used to the car because we will be moving across the country and making it a long road trip in 4 months. He watches puma snuggle with the everyone in the apartment and now ernie is not running away when people see him. He is also exploring the house and wants to play ALL THE TIME with anyone who will play with him. I watched a video that said using baby food can help with the petting and holding. He loves the food like no other but he wont let us touch him, he backs away or hisses (he does not bite or scratch.) i want to make sure that we are not going back on any of our progress and if the baby food will actually work or if we should just wait a couple more weeks to see if we approaches. He is only getting older and i want to make sure we have enough time to get him used to the car and being out and about.
