How do you breed Land Hermit Crabs in captivity?

The 'everyday hermit crab owner' cannot breed their crabs in captivity. Although breeding hermit crabs in captivity can be accomplished, it is a very expensive and painstaking process that requires creating a cycled ocean environment (as successful breeding requires the ocean/salt water). Additionally, the various life stages require special care, food, etc.
