Should i give up my rats?

im moving to texas so they will be staying with a sitter for 2 months before i can get them, then my mom will drive from oregon to texas with them. so they wont see me for 3 months, i know that rats get really stressed out really easily like for instance i left them with my mom for 2 weeks and my ratchewed half an inch off of her tail because she was so upset and stressed, should i just give them away to avoid them being so stresses and possibly hurting themselves?
