Any ways to save up for a car?

A $2000 car will run less than a week before it needs repairs. You won't be able to depend on it to get you anywhere in a timely manner. You need at least $3000 to spend $2000 on a car, as it will cost plenty every week. I'm a grandfather and my wife is a doctor, and I don't own a car. It's the worst investment you can make.
