Where can I give away a snapping turtle in NYC?
My brother bought a snapping turtle from Florida, it was tiny when it came and he put it in this 75 gallon tank with proper lighting and heating. It's a year old now and he/she is pretty big, my brother wanted to release it in the wild but someone told me that it's illegal if they're not native to their state and he's had it since it was a baby so I didn't think it would survive at all. I took it in along with the tank, the lighting and the heating system along with the filter. I've looked up on guides on how to properly care for it and what it should eat. So far it's been with me for a week, I have been trying to find someone who would be willing to take and care for it without thinking about releasing it but I haven't had any luck at all doing so. Another problem is that it's big and doesn't really fit in the tank, he/she'll stick it's head out for some air, and turn its self around and go back or forth to eat but otherwise it doesn't move much and space is limited. I feel bad for it, but I took it in in hopes that my brother wouldn't let it off in the wild, its been in captivity its whole life so far. I was wondering if theres any turtle rescue groups or something in the state of NY that would be able to take the turtle?
